Education and Preparedness
If you are a newer bird owner, we want you to be well-educated and prepared before bringing a bird into your home. We may ask that you complete volunteer time at the sanctuary and/or complete our Parrot Behavior training course (free of charge). We believe this is the best way to set bird owners up for success and significantly reduces the need for re-homing. We may also ask you to visit your bird more than once at the sanctuary to begin to form a bond, if the bird needs this extra time.
Return and Re-homing Policy
In the event that your relationship with an adopted bird does not succeed, or you are no longer able to care for the bird, adopters are required to return the bird to us directly and are prohibited from attempting to re-home it through any other means (including but not limited to: Facebook groups, Craigslist, Adopt-a-Pet, etc). Additionally, please note that the adoption fee is non-refundable should the bird need to be returned to the sanctuary. Should you wish to transfer ownership of the bird to someone who has directly cared for the bird or has built a bond with the bird (i.e. another family member or partner), you must contact us and allow us to oversee the transfer of ownership and establish a new contract with the new owner.
Application Review
Mulberry Acres Rescue reserves the right to approve or deny any adoption application at its sole discretion. We are not obligated to provide an explanation for decisions made during the review process.
Mission Statement
By adopting from a rescue, you are playing a direct role in helping to keep exotic birds out of the breeder/buyer/seller cycle and supporting efforts that prioritize the long-term welfare, rehabilitation, and responsible placement of companion birds. We thank you for being part of this mission!
